I've previously held Alabasta and Thriller Bark as my favorite "sagas," but after this new arc ends I may have to admit the Summit War Saga is the peak of One Piece thus far。 The manga's。。。 summit。。。 one might say? Off the top of my head, I can't think of too many Weekly Shounen Jump series I know to use "war" arcs, beyond Naruto and Bleach, both of which had their wars after Marineford started。 I guess it's mostly a question of whether we want to refer to the Chimera Ant Arc of Hunter x Hunter as a "war," in which case that precedes One Piece's。 Uh。。。 wait。。。 unless we're counting Alabasta, which does have a war; no idea how I missed that just now, but I think my point was that Marineford has much bigger consequences for the manga's entire world than Alabasta did。Something somewhat strange is that Ace is kinda-sorta hyped as an important character, but it turns out his "role" in the narrative is essentially to die so that Luffy would be encouraged to train harder, including learning Haki control, so he could fare better against the powerful opponents standing in the way of his goal of Pirate King。 In a similar vein, Ace is a stepping stone for Blackbeard to further build himself up as a strong motherfucker, and indeed it seems right now that the "final boss" of the series will be Blackbeard, with Admiral Akainu also being an important battle for Luffy later on (or so I assume; now that I'm over halfway caught up on the manga, I'm trying harder to avoid spoilers, so I don't know where either man is by the Wano Arc)。 Anyway, my point here is that all Ace has done is tussled with Smoker to allow Luffy to escape in Alabasta, hang out with Buggy for a moment (kinda-sorta setting Buggy up as an ally in the Summit War, but there were other reasons for the clown to join besides。。。), and "job" to Blackbeard。 I still like Ace as a character; he's a pretty cool guy, in spite of his "hot" DF ability (harharhar); and I think he looks cool as well, to a point that I may be interested in buying figures of him, if I ever decide to move beyond the series's female characters or mascot-like gag guys like Brook and Chopper。。。 (and Jango。。。 and Mr。 2。。。)。*****Chapter 574 cover: Nami using meat to lure Luffy out of a Whack-a-Mole hole to bop him*Jinbe: "Even if it costs me my body, I'll hold you back as long as I can!!!

The best volume of this series。 This changed the whole game。 Such an amazing volume, it's unreal how good Oda is at pretty much everything。 If he can nail the ending of the series and not screw it up, One Piece just might be the best work of fiction of all time。 (Well, nothing beats LOTR but he'll be up there, for sure)。 God, I hope the ending is good。 This is the type of series that depends heavily on that last arc。 It has to be good, otherwise all the earlier brilliance will be tainted。 Based The best volume of this series。 This changed the whole game。 Such an amazing volume, it's unreal how good Oda is at pretty much everything。 If he can nail the ending of the series and not screw it up, One Piece just might be the best work of fiction of all time。 (Well, nothing beats LOTR but he'll be up there, for sure)。 God, I hope the ending is good。 This is the type of series that depends heavily on that last arc。 It has to be good, otherwise all the earlier brilliance will be tainted。 Based on what he has provided thus far, I trust the man。 。。。more
